It’s that time of year where once again we need your help. Last year we asked everyone to donate cases of water or packaged snacks to hand out to our students when they visit our table. Your response was great, so please let’s do it again.  We are asking every family whose last names begin with the letters A through K to bring in sealed individual snacks such as chips, cookies, fruit roll ups or any other goodies the students might like and every family whose last name begins with L though Z please bring in a case of water. It is so important for everyone to participate so our table has enough for everyone to enjoy.

Please drop off the above-mentioned items to school. All items must be at school no later that 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21st.

As in the past, every family who participates with a minimum donation or pledge of $25 will receive a “NUT” (no uniform today) card upon payment.

The support is overwhelming and very much appreciated. Each and every box top we collect nets a $.10 profit to our school and provides opportunities for our children.

Once again there will be a contest for the class that collects the most box tops. The class wins an ice cream party and the teacher wins a $25 gift card and both win bragging rights.

Fall Music Festival Coordinator

All current 7th grade students who will be returning to 8th grade next year will need a hotmail/msn account. Please think about your user name; make this your ‘grown up’ email address. xxbabycheeksxx, x1fightingguy1x wouldn’t be what I had in mind.  Think of this as the email you will take with you, and not be ashamed to use when you go to high school, college and later on use on a job application.

Once you have created your account, you will have access to ‘skydrive’. This is Microsoft’s answer to Google docs. It will enable you to save, edit and share your documents whether you’re at school or at home. As long as you have a computer and internet access, you will be able to log into your documents. No longer will you have to worry about forgetting to bring that important essay to school, as long as you created it online, you will be able to access it from the computer lab at school and print it out. Similarly, if you didn’t have time to finish a project at school, if it’s saved on skydrive, you can access and finish it at home.

Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 school year! We have been working very hard to make the upcoming school year special for our students. Thanks to the Sports Committee, the gymnasium floor has been painted, and a new scoreboard, donated by Shoprite and Pepsi, will be installed. The bathrooms (upstairs and downstairs) have been painted. The computer room has been updated with brand new computers for our students. The following is some information that you will need to get the school year running smoothly for all our children.

Grades 1 – 8:  School will begin on Wednesday, September 7^th. We start the year with full school days, so please pack lunch. Bus service will begin on this day. Students in Grades 1 – 8 are to line up in our school’s auditorium where they will be met by their teachers (parents are NOT permitted to enter the school building).

Kindergarten: On Wednesday, September 7^th only, Kindergarten children and their parents are to arrive at 9:15 a.m. where your child’s teacher will meet you in our school’s auditorium. Kindergarten parents are asked to return to school at 1:30 p.m. to visit the classroom and pick up their child and pre-packaged supplies (supplies that must be purchased from our school). A list of the mandatory supplies is attached to this letter. Please enclose the total amount of $34.25 (cash or check payable to St. Christopher’s School) in an envelope with your child’s name on the outside of the envelope on the first day of school. There will be a brief orientation at this time and we ask your cooperation in making arrangements so that your younger children do not attend this orientation.

2:45 p.m.                               Kindergarten Dismissal ONLY is always 15 minutes earlier than the rest of the school, including early dismissal days. Kindergarten dismissal will be at the front entrance on Lisbon Place. Parents, upon seeing their child at dismissal, should meet him/her at the stairs to pick up their child from the teacher, and walk them back outside the front gates.

2:50 p.m.                               Grade 1 Dismissal ONLY is always 10 minutes earlier than the rest of the school, including early dismissal days.

3:00 p.m.                               Grade 2 – 8 Dismissal

Half day dismissals will be at 12:00 noon (11:45 a.m. – Kindergarten; 11:50 a.m. – Grade 1).

Please make sure your child brings lunch to school each and every day, except on early dismissal days. NO fast food lunches are permitted (pizza, burgers, etc.). Parents are not permitted to deliver their child’s(ren’s) lunch on a daily basis.

All students are to begin the school year wearing their summer uniform.

Summer Uniform

Summer uniforms are worn from the first day of school until mid-October. Parents will be notified by memorandum when students are to discontinue use of the summer uniform sometime in October. Summer uniforms are also worn in May and June. Please note that shorts cannot be worn when class pictures are taken.

Boys’ Summer Uniform (Grades Kindergarten through 8):

White school knit shirt, navy uniform pants, belt, school shoes, and navy or white socks.

Girls’ Summer Uniform (Grades Kindergarten through 4):

White school blouse, school jumper, no tie, school shoes and navy knee socks or navy tights.

Girls’ Summer Uniform (Grades 5 through 8):

White school knit shirt, school skirt, uniform shoes, navy knee socks or navy tights

Optional Summer Uniform for Boys and Girls in Grades K through 8 (only when wearing the following optional summer uniform can students wear white sneakers):

School navy walking shorts, white school knit shirt, all white sneakers and white socks (white socks must be visible above sneakers). Girls have the option of wearing a navy skort in place of walking shorts (no more than 2 inches above the knee).

On Tuesday, September 13^th at 7:00 p.m., we will have a “Back to School” meeting in our auditorium. This evening is for PARENTS ONLY of students in Grades 1 – 8. (Students are not permitted to attend.) Although Pre-K and Kindergarten parents will have had their orientations already, we welcome these parents to come to this meeting and hear the good news about St. Christopher’s School.  You will be introduced to our faculty and given an overall view of the coming school year. On this evening, parents will be invited to go to the classrooms where their child’s teacher will review class policy and goals.

Official uniforms and uniform shoes must be purchased from Flynn and O’Hara Uniform located at Forest Avenue. They can be reached at (718) 227-5499.

Official gym uniforms must be purchased from Just For Kicks located at 91 Lincoln Avenue. They can be reached at (718) 667-5120.

• Students must also purchase all white sneakers. NO coloring of any sort should be on the sneakers.

Just a reminder, if we have not already received your medical form, this MUST be filled out by your child’s doctor and returned to the school office on the first day of school. This includes all Kindergarten students and new students for Grades 1 – 8.
